And she smiles

Her hands shaking in denial…

On a long gravel lane down poplar road

She stood in the kitchen while the grass was mowed

Cleanin the stream of blood a flowin

Watched him while she kept the bruises from showin

He came home from the bar drunk as hell

At 2 pm of booze and cigarette smell

His food wasn’t ready and he started to yell

The night grew dark, he pushed, she fell
