Chains That Bind

In the shadows, where the whispers lie,

I’m drowning under a troubled sky,

Thoughts collide, it's hard to breathe,

This struggle feels like a slow, dark steeve.

Tuesday’s weight, it drags me down,

Echoes of doubt spinning ‘round and ‘round,

Mother-in-law’s voice, it cuts like glass,

“Don’t spend, don’t buy,” it’s a heavy mass.

Pulling over, hands on the wheel,

Past the point where I used to feel,

Liquor store lights, they call my name,

One last drink to silence the shame.

But I won't let the darkness win,

This battle rages, it’s deep within,

Ottawa streets, they pave my pain,

Every corner holds a memory, a stain,

Abuser’s words, they wrap like a vine,

Twisting my heart, they blur what's mine.

Probation's rules, they can’t bind my soul,

I’m breaking these chains, reclaiming control.

I’m weaving my dreams, refusing the blight,
