Paradox of Fire

I rise from the ashes, a fiery soul

Misunderstood by many, my heart made of coal

They see my flames, but not my pain

A symbol of power, but also of shame

I'm the phoenix, not the shy type

My wings are dark, but my fire burns bright

I'm a creature of darkness, yet seeks to take flight.

I search for redemption, a chance to be free

A paradox of fire and of the night

From shadows which haunt & flames that consume me

Maybe someday I'll control my fire

Then I'll find my heart's desire

What’s the point if I always burn

To miss the lesson if I never learn

I will hold on and might at long last

Overcome the mistakes of my past

I wish I may, I wish I might

Rise above the ashes, and emerge into the light
