Looking around my country these days
Trying to understand the MAGA craze
I feel embarrassed and ashamed
And upset that in the eyes of the world I can be blamed
For over half a century a proud American
Now I'm holding on tight doing what I can
To be stronger, kinder, and determined to defend
A way of life on which many did once depend
So many people generous and caring
Some of whom fell into his trap of scaring
Now we may seem divided not seeing eye to eye
But most are decent people who work hard and try
America once brave and free
Now we look in a mirror not liking what we see
Americans are warm generous and caring
Need a shirt and theyd give you the one theyre wearing
Too many people unable to think
Bought his lies and the Kool Aid they did drink
He lied and lied and stoked unwarranted fears
So many invisible peoples lives drowning in tears
Human condition instills bias against others
We judge we classify ignoring they are sister and brother
But racism does not define who we are
But its an area we need to raise the bar
America once brave and free
Now we look in a mirror not liking what we see
Americans are warm generous and caring
Need a shirt and theyd give you the one theyre wearing
250 years ago this nation was borallegiance to founding principles we have sworn
Just as familiar as our national eagle
Are the founding words "all men created equal
So dont give up on America now
I know we will but I dont know how
Lead and provide and be a beacon of hope
Real Americans are decent people and right now we're all just trying to cope
America once brave and free
Now we look in a mirror not liking what we see
Americans are warm generous and caring
Need a shirt and theyd give you the one theyre wearing
America reborn, our upcoming sequel
And we will launch with the words "all men created equal"
