Prompt / Lyrics
From Babylon's chains, a weary journey home, To shattered walls, where spirits used to roam. With hammers raised, and hope within their eyes, They seek to build beneath Judean skies. The altar first, a beacon in the dust, A testament to faith, a sacred trust. Though enemies may mock and foes may sneer, Their purpose stands, dispelling doubt and fear. The temple rises, stone by heavy stone, A symphony of labor, bravely shown. Old men weep, remembering days of old, But younger hearts, with visions to unfold. Rejoice and sing, let gratitude resound, For in this work, true freedom can be found. A sanctuary built, a promise to reclaim, In God's embrace, they find their sacred name The book of Ezra A heavy heart, beneath the weight of sin, Ezra kneels, where new hope can begin. Torn clothes and hair, a symbol of despair, He cries to God, a burden he must share. "Our fathers strayed, from covenant so true, And we have walked the paths they wandered through." A tangled web of disobedience spun, A nation's shame, beneath the setting sun. "We're bowed in guilt, our faces to the ground, Unworthy now, where mercy can be found." Yet in his plea, a flicker of belief, That grace can heal, and offer sweet relief. "Though scattered wide, Your love has brought us near, Forgive our deeds, and calm our rising fear." With humble heart, he seeks a righteous way, To turn from darkness, into brighter day. This is Ezra The hammer's ring, a challenge to the foe, "They build," they sneer, "but we will overthrow!" Sanballat's scorn, Tobiah's mocking laugh, Yet walls arise, on faith's firm epitaph. But Ezra stands, with scroll in outstretched hand, To read the Law, across the weary land. From dawn till noon, the words of old unfold, A tapestry of truth, for young and old. They weep and mourn, for laws they left behind, A call to change, with purpose in their mind. Nehemiah speaks, "This day is set apart, Rejoice in God, with humble, grateful heart!" For in the Law, a path they now can see, To live in grace, and truly to be free. Though foes may rage, and battles may be won, The Word prevails, till setting of the sun. The book of Ezra
