Midnight Ride

There’s a crack in the silence, ticking on the wall

Every second like a whisper, like it knows it all

I was staring at the clock, waiting on a sign

When headlights cut the darkness—yeah, right on time

You pulled up slow, window rolled down

Said “you coming or you staying in this town?”

So I jumped in the car with Bob tonight

Chasing neon dreams under broken streetlights

The clock kept ticking but we didn’t care

Just two lost souls going nowhere

Engine humming like a lullaby

Speeding past the reasons why

We ever thought we’d stay where we are

Yeah, I found freedom in a beat-up car

Radio’s buzzing with a half-known song

Bob’s tapping rhythm like he’s known it all along

We don’t talk much, but we don’t need words

Just the road unwinding every doubt we’ve heard

He glanced my way, said “time moves fast”

I said “not tonight, let’s make it last”

So we drove that car through the edge of dawn

Where the night holds tight but the fear is gone

The clock gave up trying to keep us in line

We were living outside of time

Windows down and the cold air bites

But it feels like truth in the city lights

We were more than names, more than scars

Just two wild hearts in a stolen car

Tick-tock fades when you’re miles away

From every voice that told you to stay

Bob just smiled, said “now you see?”

“This is what it means to be free”

Still riding that car with Bob somehow

Even when I’m standing still right now

That clock keeps ticking but I’ve changed pace

Left a piece of me in that place

Every second’s just a chance to start

Turn the key and restart your heart

No matter where you think you are

You can always run…

You can always run in your own fast car

Ticking fades… engine hums low…

Me and Bob, we still go.
