She had bruises she never explained

Covered in makeup, hid all the pain

He broke her down with every word

But she still smiled like it never hurt

Worked two jobs, came home dead tired

Fed us first, never showed the fire

He cheated, lied, and cursed her name

But she never passed down any blame

She should’ve crumbled, but she stood

Held the house up like a mother would

Taught us how to pray, how to fight

And kissed our heads every night

Still she rises, through the rain
