The Test

Mid August mid day only car on the highway

In the Sonoran desert with no intention to stay

Everything i own in an old diesel Mercedes

Deadly heat feels hotter than Hades

A bold statement of love to my future wife

Guarantees made and sworn to God and on my life

I challenged God and told him to test me

Immediately with a bang I realized boy did he

Life is a challenge we always face a test

There's  no such thing as a smooth life quest

Survival on the line you must quickly make a decision

What to do next and what will be your disposition

I got off the road breathed deep remaining steady

Popping the trunk for this I was not ready

Seeing all I have in life it was time to make the selection

What can I carry out on my back with no service or connection

I selected the items and started to pack

Fitting everything into a single army duffle sack

The nearest town was named Benjamin Hill

With the help of federales we got there and made a deal

We sold the car and the items we planned not to take

We were doing ok and were saved from being baked

Waking  up the next day with few ways to get to the border

We began to hitchhike though we knew that was a tall order

A man named Greg nervously stopped to assist

He drove us to Phoenix proving angels do exist

We made it home ending a great and dangerous journey

And to this day I can hear God saying dont test me
