Now fueled by fear and ignorance for all to see

Once living values like peace hope and law and order

We throw it out scared of who is at the border

Once a country indivisible in unity

Now our leaders stoke division between you and me

We swallow lies and fear what we hear on our t v

We marginalize and hate and forfeit the rights which make us free

Immigration built our nation

We expect all to welcome us on our vacation

People fleeing poverty violence or climate devastation

We act like they're not human and relish our callous deportation

America

We throw it out scared of who is at the border

White black gay all fought with pride

Defending our freedom they fought and died

No difference in the tears their mothers cried

Their heroics we cast aside

Their memory and honor to be denied

We hide behind the Bible and moral teaching

Expect all to abide by our preaching

A huge hypocrisy in the conclusion they are reaching

A misguided reality they are seeking

The message is clear for all to hear

Dont judge or malign others

They're all sisters and brothers

We are not commissioned to subject all to our moralistic ideal

Our mission is to love accept forgive and heal

When it comes to Christ's call

We are deep in the biggest hypocrisy of them all

What one does behind closed doors

Is their concern and in no way is yours

To be American is to be free

All are human and should enjoy equality

Views on migrants minorities trans or gay

Are not the American way

We shouldn't force morals by law

Or abuse those on the wrong side of a line we draw

Every person has the right to be free

To be granted equality

Recognize your hypocrisy

Stand up for democracy

No longer living in silence

Rise above your voluntary ignorance

Stop causing dread and tears

Which are caused by your slavery to your fears
