Prompt / Lyrics
Way down yonder where the tall pines grow, Lived a young man folks all know. Eric was his given name, But it’s his right hand that brought him fame. Oh, Steve the hand, he’d talk all day, Spinnin’ tales in the strangest way. People came from miles around, To hear that hand make a sound. Eric tried to live a normal life, Dreamed of kids, a house, a wife. But every time he’d shake a hand, Steve would chatter and ruin the plan. Oh, Steve the hand, he’d talk all day, Spinnin’ tales in the strangest way. People laughed, and some would run, But Eric’s life was never done. One fine day in the middle of June, Eric met a girl who loved the tune. She didn’t mind his talkin’ palm, Said, “That ol’ hand just sings a song.” Now Steve and Eric travel far, Pickin’ banjos, playin’ bars. One’s got fingers, one’s got soul, Together they make the music roll. Oh, Steve the hand, he sings all day, Strummin’ strings in a bluegrass way. Eric found his place at last, With a talkin’ hand and a love so fast. So if you hear a voice so sweet, But no one’s there upon their feet, It might just be ol’ Eric’s hand, Singin’ tunes across the land.
