Im finding it hard finding words that will convey

What its like being American today

Its like showing up at a fancy event

Where no one else is happy that you went

Everyone in a tuxedo

But you show up wearing speedo

But instead of being embarrassed

You think everyone is impressed

This is not the American i know

We should be ashamed with morale so low

Half of us have grown blind

Or completely lost our mind

The other half is in fright

But ready to stand and fight

Regardless of what the world may see

We still believe in decency

We still recognize immigration

Is at the heart of a healthy nation

But our biggest single disgrace

Is our hatred based on race

Its so hard to understand

What we're doing in our land

This is not the American i know

We hope your patience will last

Until we put this in our past

This country will rise and be

A leader and beacon for democracy

We'll come up with a solution

For our fossil fuel polution

Receive migrants and be

Welcoming for each refugee

Once we get through this storm

We will be kind and will be warm

I will say it out loud

Once again we will be proud
