Prompt / Lyrics
Composed originally as a free verse with a pen On a napkin at a coffee shop A message to a friend. It spoke of new beginnings that may lead to an end Of this fly by night plastic world where we pretend. The subject was a champion who dreamed and aimed higher Believed that change would come without streams of gunfire. Not perfect in the least, yet his soul was admired 'cause he kept pushing on, no matter how he perspired. Roads were rocky, obstacles he overcame Soon he learned shortcuts wouldn't lead to fame. He never hurt nobody, so there's no need for shame All he wanted was the world to know your name
