It's Who I Am

I've walked through the shadows, stared death in the face,
Laughed at the reaper, kept up with his pace.
Tried everything once, 'cause fear's not my friend,
Life’s just a moment, not where it ends.
Been there and done that,
Lived life to it's fullest.
Now the nights are long,
Sleep’s just a tease.
Nothings too hard,
I'll always find a way.
I carry the weight,
Of brothers and sisters I’ve lost,
My mind's a battlefield, no room for peace.
Freedom ain't free,
It comes with a cost.
I keep moving,
through the fire and the fight,
A soldier of shadows, a guardian of light.
Telling me to stop,
Is a waiste of breath,
I push on,
No matter the cost.
It's never too dangerous,
It's never enough. 
Don't always know what I'm doing, 
Don't always know how,
But I'll make it happen,
I'll not rest until it's done.
I stand for the flag,
My oath’s in my veins,
It never expires,
It has no end.
Dark humor’s my armor, it keeps me alive,
It’s how I remember,
It's how I survive.
If you've never walked the walk,
Or talked the talk,
You'll never understand.
A veteran’s burden, heavy but true,
I bear it with pride,
For the red, white, and blue.
I'd do it all again,
I'd do it for you.
It's something that changes you,
But it's tried and true.
I've scars you won't see,
I've stories you'll never hear,
I've bled on ground, 
You didn't know was around.
