The sun is tethered above my head
Ten yards away buckets of sweat I shed
Living in a world ruled by fright
S one may cower but I embrace the night
The world's gone mad full of indecision
Judgement racial hate and rigid division
Billions of people so many in need
We ignore charity while embracing greed
American holiday in the lone star state
Children asleep blissfully unaware of their fate
Wars and famine belligerence and hate
Dense people committed to making America great
A document that lays out the governing laws
A government ignoring the laws and exploiting its flaws
When convenient we tout the constitution
To create outcomes and wreckers solutions
Nothing eclipses the right to bear arms
Total callousness for who it harms
For some reason I can't buy a bazooka or machine gun
But silencers aren't taxed and assault rifles are fun
American holiday in the lone star state
Children asleep blissfully unaware of their fate
Wars and famine belligerence and hate
Dense people committed to making America great
A complete discard for the sanctity of life
How many die yearly by bullet or knife
Children in schools revelers in a club
Nowhere is safe not even the pub
We're beyond common sense and need a resolution
The country is gripped by denial and delusion
So many insist we govern women's choices
Yet they enable the slaughter and silence dissenting voices
The reality is the change must be drastic
A dream of peace and a society fantastic
American holiday in the lone star state
Children asleep blissfully unaware of their fate
Wars and famine belligerence and hate
Dense people committed to making America great
So few now living the life taught by the good book
Maybe its time we all took another look
