A shot rings out under Utah's sky

One shot and a husband and father did die

A tragic moment of political violence

Nothing gained not even his silence

Half mast the President does decree

As he blames the left with no evidence to see

Devisive talk making hearts grow harder

Don't be fooled because Charlie's no martyr

The real story here is gun violence

A national crisis met only by silence

A government in a lobbyist alliance

We the people must stand in defiance

I pray for his kids and his wife

And am saddened that he lost his life

We need to think now rationally

And not be reactive emotionally

Review the things he said and taught

Its clear a hero he is not

Though it does not justify his fate

His message was riddled with racism and hate

The real story here is gun violence

No martyr or a hero in some fight

A poster child for the hatred on the right

The flags should not be lowered for a podcast celebrity

What about all the kids in schools who die tragically

This man's death is a painful tragedy

But he's no hero and caused harm nationally

A real hero would put an end to racial hate

Ending gun violence would make one great

Charlie  i'm sorry you are a victim

Caught up in a hateful violent system

My prayer is your hatred ends allowing our daughters and sons

To live without hate violence fear and guns

A new course America must charter
