A Soldier’s Prayer

Another sunrise bleeds through the camo tent

Got dirt in my boots and a letter I never sent

My mama’s voice echoes in the wind

She says, “Son, come home,” but I ain’t done defendin’

I’ve seen young men cry with blood on their hands

Still we stand tall in the desert sands

I didn’t come here lookin’ for glory or fame

But I swore an oath — and I’ll hold that flame
