Embers of Solitude

In ancient mountains, I reside alone

Feared by all, yet still unknown

My heart beats fierce, my soul aflame

I search for my mate, but alone I remain

In darkness I burn, with fire in my soul

Forever alone, till your heart makes me whole

Through smoke and embers, I see the past

A memory of love, that was supposed to last

I roar with desire, my flames reaching high

But no golden hoard of treasure will satisfy

In anger I destroy their homes & fields

They’ll just rebuild again

It doesn’t help me a bit to heal

Just a dragon without a friend

The knights attack, so I must defend

I’m not ready to die, this is not my end

My mate is near I can feel her heartbeat

I call out to her in the hope we can meet

I hold out hope for one more day

I refuse to be their dragon to slay
