Life's a vapor can't hold it right
Chasing dreams through the depth of night
Under the sun it's all routine
Dust to dust if you know what I mean
I built my towers I claimed my land
Drank from gold with a heavy hand
Wisdom mixes with foolish grace
But the end is the same we all trade place
Time and season for all in life
A time for peace a time for strife
The meaning hides in the cracks unseen
In the echoes of the in between
Laughter fades and the party's done
Joy and pain under the glaring sun
I saw kings fall i saw beggers rise
I saw wealth burn in a fires guise
The wise and the fool both meet the grave
Is it all vanity is it all we crave
Chasing the wind it's all in vein
Trying to win but there's no gain
Everything passes like sand through glass
Nothing we hold ever seems to last
The preacher speaks of the simple truth
The chase will end no fountain of youth
Searching for meaning under the sun
Everything's been done it's all been spun
Chasing the wind no prize to be won
It's vanity of vanities said the wise one
Season spinning round time's on repeat
Planting and plucking dreams beneath our feet
Laughter and crying in the balance we meet
What gain is there when dust is all we keep
I built castles I sang my songs
I drank wine but it didn't last long
Works of my hands they melted like dawn
Fading like shadows when the sun moves on
Two are stronger when together they strive
But one alone a cord can't survive
The race isn't given to the fastest alive
It's all chance and fate under heaven wide skies
The preacher spoke with the voice of old
Fear God he said that's the purest gold
Keep his commands as the story unfolds
This whisper of truth never grows cold
No gold no silver can make us whole
Wisdom and folly both take a toll
A time to live a time to lose control
It's all just vapor slipping from the soul
