Prompt / Lyrics
You had me by the heart strings from the very start. Yes I was immature and did some hurtful things, but you were no saint. I still took you by the hand and said that we can, but in the end you let me go for another man that can strum a tune, but can’t write a song from the bottom of his heart. Then give it to the girl that tore it all apart. Chorus: (Yeah, I wrote this song, so one day you could sing along, because I can say I grew up and you moved on.) Times got hard and sometimes even uncomfortable. Nothing mattered with the sweet nothings you whispered to keep me going. Somewhere along the way it started fading off. You could see the storm coming in The sky blackened with cumulonimbus accumulating. Our life was out of control, but hardly ever boring. To make you happy we added characters to our story. Was kind of hoping you would gravitate toward me. But you had other plans and kept slipping away a little further with every passing day. Until I lost my grip and you slipped away I lost that smile to a man that can strum a tune, but can’t write song from the bottom of his heart. Then give it to a girl that tore it all apart. Chorus: (Yeah, I wrote this song, so one day you could sing along, because I can say I grew up and you moved on.)
