Dancing shadows

This actually happened a few days after I got out of the burn unit just before Thanksgiving day .For shadows, dancing four shadows, play four shadows dancing four shadows run away.                                      At 2 a.m., I’m unable to sleep while sitting here, experiencing a deep, slow-moving pain that radiates from a burn. I step outside and breathe in the cold air, taking a deep breath. I hear the raven crow, and I see a white raven perched on a bench. I take a deep drag from a cigarette and sit next to it, listening to the ravens nag. The intense pain in my arms sears my brain, making it difficult to think.
Four shadows dancing, four shadows play four shadows, dancing for shadows run away for shadows dancing for shadows play for shadows dancing all the way.
On the fire department training grounds, I see the ravens again. They are playing tag on the training tower, and I realize that they are the shadows of my boys. I scream, and our boys scream in response. The ravens cry, and I understand that they are the voices of my boys. I don’t know why, but I am left dumbfounded, experiencing pain in my brain and seeing the boys playing tag while missing them.

I am driven mad by the sight of the boys playing tag and the realization that they are gone. I call out to my mother, asking for help. I plead with her to come and take my boys to Valhalla’s promised land because they are good boys.
