Prompt / Lyrics
Jehovah said to Jonah, “Go take my word, Tell Nineveh, their sins are heard. But Jonah sailed to flee the east, Thinking the storm would be released.” The waves rose high, the wind did roar, The sailors prayed from shore to shore. Jonah confessed, “It’s all my fault, Throw me out and end this halt.” Oh Jonah, don’t run away, Jehovah’s love will show the way! Big fish, strong winds, lessons too — God’s mercy shines on me and you! The sea grew calm when Jonah sank, Jehovah’s mercy, he had to thank. A great big fish came right his way, And swallowed him up that very day. In the fish he prayed so deep, Jehovah heard him when he weeped. Three long days and nights he stayed, Till on dry ground he was laid. Oh Jonah, don’t run away, Jehovah’s love will show the way! Big fish, strong winds, lessons too — God’s mercy shines on me and you! “Go once more,” said God so kind, “Preach my word, don’t look behind.” Jonah walked through city wide, Warning that judgment would not hide. From king to poor, they wore a sack, And turned from doing what was bad. Jehovah saw their hearts repent, He held back wrath He would have sent. Oh Jonah, don’t run away, Jehovah’s love will show the way! Big fish, strong winds, lessons too — God’s mercy shines on me and you! Jonah frowned and left the town, Waiting for fire to come down. Jehovah asked, “Do you do well? Is anger right in you to swell?” A big plant grew and gave him shade, Jonah was glad for what God made. But when a worm had chewed the vine, Jonah cried, “This grief is mine!” Oh Jonah, don’t run away, Jehovah’s love will show the way! Big fish, strong winds, lessons too — God’s mercy shines on me and you! Jehovah spoke to teach the man, “Shouldn’t I care, that’s my plan? For Nineveh with many souls, And children there beyond control?” So Jonah learned from sky to sea, That mercy lives in God’s decree. He loves all hearts that turn and pray, He gives us hope in every day. Oh Jonah, don’t run away, Jehovah’s love will show the way! Big fish, strong winds, lessons too — God’s mercy shines on me and you! Sometimes we run, sometimes we hide, But God will still be by our side. When storms arise, we’ll never fall, If we listen and heed His call. Oh Jonah, don’t run away, Jehovah’s love will show the way! Big fish, strong winds, lessons too — God’s mercy shines on me and you! Oh Jonah, don’t run away, Jehovah’s love will show the way! Big fish, strong winds, lessons too — God’s mercy shines on me and you! Big fish, strong winds, lessons too — God’s mercy shines on me and you!
