Dust on the streets where the people used to sing
Now a shadowy silence clings to everything 
City once golden now broken and torn 
Crowned with despair where hope was once born
A widow's voice in the night does call
Her heart beats heavy like the city's fall
The elders weep and the children are still
The weight of the loss bends every will
From the ashes rises a question raw
Where was my defender against the law
No answer comes but the silence bleeds
Lamentations grabs my soul and my needs
The poets speak with their ink turned red
Lines of grief for the living and the dead
A prophet stands but his cries won't sway 
The temple crumbles brick by brick away 
Cry out loud the sorrow don't fade 
Carve the pain in the stone God made 
Oh Jerusalem your tears still stream 
Echoes of a nightmare rupturing dreams 
Streets of Zion crying so loud 
Heartbeats heavy under a shadowed clouds 
Walls of the city now tumble and break
Voices call out a sorrowful ache
Once we were golden now tarnished and lost
Kings and crowns gone what's the cost 
We search for the mercy we'll never see
Grief's a heavy chain we can't set free
Cried at the altar with no words to say
Ashes and shadows lead the way 
The books open wide with truth that bleeds
A lament for the soul the hunger it feeds
Tears in the dust echoes so wide
