Prompt / Lyrics
We crave justice, a sweet refrain, For others' woes, their hurt and pain. Yet when it knocks upon our door, We seek for mercy, and plead for more. Fairness, a word we often claim, When elders gain, or youth escape blame. We murmur low, "It's not the same," As life's unfairness fans the flame. The good face trials, the wicked thrive, A twisted script, where wrongs survive. We question why, we seek the rhyme, In this chaotic dance of time. But justice true, a balanced scale, Beyond our grasp, beyond the veil. A higher plan, we can't foresee, Trust in the One who sets us free. Oh, justice, a double-edged sword, In whose name battles are always poured. Do we seek what's right, or what we crave? In God's eyes, can our souls be saved? Forgive us, Lord, for hearts astray, Help us seek justice every day. Beyond our wants, beyond our fears, A world where love conquers all tears. The sting of envy, "Why not me?" A bitter pill, we swallow free. Justice bends with biased tongue, Depending on where we're from. God's judgment stands, a higher call, His ways are not like ours at all. We may not grasp His grand design, Yet trust His wisdom, so divine. "Forgive us as we pardon those," The sacred words our lips compose. But do we truly mean to heed, This selfless act, this noble creed? I seek a God of gentle grace, Who sees my heart, my earnest face. To strive for good, though oft I fall, And offer justice unto all. When justice calls, the purse strings tighten, A test of heart, where wills do fighten. Do we vote with wallets stout, Or seek a world for all about? That selfish cry, "What's in it now?" Can dim the light, and break the vow. To lift the fallen, heal the sore, And open wide compassion's door. The path to justice, steep and high, May ask a price, a sacrifice. But souls entwined, in common cause, Can rise above, and break the laws Of greed and self, that bind us tight, To claim a future, pure and bright. Though Jesus' justice may sting, It's in His truth, our hearts take wing Oh, justice, a double-edged sword, In whose name battles are always poured. Do we seek what's right, or what we crave? In God's eyes, can our souls be saved? Forgive us, Lord, for hearts astray, Help us seek justice every day. Beyond our wants, beyond our fears, A world where love conquers all tears. Jeremiah 23 5 to 6 Lord, You want us to work for Your kind of justice. Give me the grace to put others first and be both just and merciful. In Jesus name, Amen.
