America's young men and women
Called to fight a war
Sent to a foreign land
To defeat the enemy
To prevail over young men and women
Who are ready to shed their own blood
On their country’s soil
The strong and young
Against the strong and young
Both sides fighting under their own country's flag
Prepared to die for the same
The government says we won the war
Our citizens are so proud that we won
But I stand here today
As one of the strong and young
As one who wore the uniform
And saw the blood shed
And watched the soil turn red
One who watched my brothers and sisters die
Who heard the cries to God
As I held my friends in my arms
As one who fought to keep the life in them
And lost the fight again and again
I fought proudly under the American flag
And defended my country
I stand here today and tell you
We did not win the war
Nobody won the war
We lost too many young men and women to say we won
Those who made it out alive
Did not make it out unwoonded
We carry the horror of war with us
And see it every time we close our eyes
We hear the cries to God in the silence of the night
Nobody ever really wins a war
The price of freedom is high
And the true cost is known only by those
Who wore the uniform
God bless our veterans
