Before the sun

There’s a truck running down the road

Been there longer than it needs

I keep standing in the doorway

Like that ever stopped a thing

You’re still asleep, the house is warm

Same old boards beneath my feet

Funny how it’s harder leaving quiet

Than it ever was to leave mid-speech

So I’m gone before the sun

Before we say it wrong

Nothing here is broken

It just hasn’t held this long

I won’t make it someone’s fault

I won’t say it’s all my own

Some things don’t fall apart

They just don’t feel like home

We talked around it long enough

Like time might change its mind

But wanting isn’t the same as having

And love don’t always line up right

I know the way you take your coffee

I know the dip in every stair

But knowing every little thing

Don’t mean there’s something left to share

Maybe later it’ll settle

Maybe it won’t ever do

Either way, I can’t keep standing

Waiting on it to move

So I’m gone before the sun

I leave the door how I found

I’ll carry what was good with me

Let the rest stay where it’s been now
