Prompt / Lyrics
Remember? How it felt when he said it was love and you felt it in your heart? Not seeing the red flags and hoping it wouldn’t fall all apart? Remember? The first time he didn’t call or answer the phone? How he just left you there all alone? Remember? The first fight? How he left and never came back that night? How he went days without saying a word, Making sure he could do everything to cause you the most hurt? He blamed everything on you and said you can’t do one thing right, He knows why he is always sad, It’s always your fault, Remember that, Remember? When he lost his temper and tossed you to the floor? How after he did it, he said he wouldn’t anymore? Remember? When he pushed you in the driveway? Just enough to hurt a little bit? How he told you were crazy and that weren’t ever hit? He blamed everything on you and said you can’t do one thing right, He knows why he is always sad, It’s always your fault, Remember that, When it’s 2pm and he’s passed out drunk, and you find all the bottles he won’t give up, Remember… As you stand there realizing this was the end, And not thinking you’re ready to lose another “friend”, Remember… Remember? When you slipped on the kitchen floor? But in reality you were violently shoved into the door? Remember? How you laid there screaming for help but no one ever came? How he was trying to dampen the floor so he wasn’t to blame? He blamed everything on you and said you can’t do one thing right, He knows why he is always sad, It’s always your fault, Remember that, When it’s 2pm and he’s passed out drunk, and you find all the bottles he won’t give up, Remember… As you stand there realizing this was the end, And not thinking you’re ready to lose another “friend”, Remember…. Life won’t always be this way, but it’s your choice whether you decide to stay, All the words and promises won’t fix what was broken, But you can heal from the bruises and harmful words that have been spoken, Remember. You’re going to be alright. Take my hand and I’ll guide you toward the light.
