It don’t scream…

It whispers…

You ever notice that?

I hear it creeping when the room go still

Like a voice in my head that just won’t be still

Says “you tired of fighting? let go, just fall”

“Ain’t nobody watching, ain’t nobody call”

Says “take what you want, you deserve that crown”

“Why you bow your head when you could stand your ground?”

Truth in disguise when it talks like that

Like a clean white lie dressed in all black

I been walking that line, thin as a thread

Peace in my chest but war in my head

One says “hold on,” one says “just take”

One builds you up, one wants you to break

Quiet at first but it grows so fast

Plants that seed and it makes it last

Watered in doubt till it starts to bleed

Turning a thought to a real dark need

It whispers my name when the lights go out

Says “no one will know what you’re thinking ‘bout”

Pulls at my soul like it knows my pain

Been right there through the storm and rain

“Just one step, you can turn away”

“Just one choice, you don’t gotta stay”

But I know that voice, I know that sound

It don’t lift you up—it drags you down

Now it’s louder, yeah I feel it close

Like a shadow that follows wherever I go

Says “look at your past, you ain’t that clean”

“Who you fooling with that ‘redeemed’?”

Cuts real deep ‘cause it knows my scars

Every weak spot, every broken part

I start seeing lies like they’re really true

Start losing grip on what I knew

Pacing floors in the dead of night

Trying to fight what I know ain’t right

But it keeps on pushing, won’t let me be

Like it feeds on fear inside of me

No chains on me but I feel tied down

No crown on me but I feel that crown

No fire here but I feel that heat

No one around but I hear that speech

Then a quieter voice cuts through the sound

Not as loud but it holds me down

Says “you don’t gotta break, don’t fold like that”

“You don’t need that weight on your back”

Hard to hear when the dark gets thick

When temptation talking confident quick

Promises peace but it deals in pain

Offers control but it comes with chains

I stood there stuck at the line I drew

One wrong step and I’m slipping through

But I saw that lie for what it is

Not a gift… just a counterfeit fix

It whispers my name when the lights go out

But I see through the lies that it talks about

Yeah it knows my past but it don’t define

I won’t let that voice control my mind

It still whispers…

But I don’t listen the same…

Not anymore…
