John the Baptist

In the desert he roamed a voice so clear

Preaching truth to the crowds no fear

No fear locusts and honey his daily feast

Clothed in camels hair a wild hearted priest

Down by the river the people came

Seeking the waters cleansing their shame

He said repent the kingdoms near

A prophets words sharp like a spear

He faced the kings he faced the scorn

A voice of thunder a prophet reborn

Baptized the lamb the heavens split

Spirit descended this was it

But he spoke too loud and the world took aim

Imprisoned the prophet but they couldn't tame

A heart so fierce a mission so pure

Even in chains his faith endured

John John the Baptist bold

With a fire in his soul a story untold

Crying out loud in the wilderness wide

Prepare the way let the truth be your guide

Out in the wild where the river flows

John's got a message the world's gotta know

Dressed in camel hair eating honey and bugs

Preaching the truth about heaven above

Pharisees came with their robes so clean

John called them out like their part of a scheme

Repent he said turn your hearts to the light

The kingdom is near it's a heavenly fight

He said I'm not worthy to untie his shoes

But he's bringing fire and the spirit too

I'm just the herald I'm clearing the way

For the lamb of God on his glorious day

Herods court tried to silence his tone

Locked him away but the seeds were sown

John stood firn in his holy quest

A prophet of truth who gave his best

He's the voice in the desert crying out loud

Make way for the one bring the glory down

Baptizing the seekers in the Jordan's stream

John's paving the road for the ultimate king
