Prompt / Lyrics
The day burst forth in radiance and light Chasing away the shadows of the darkness of night The rising sun sent sweeps of color across an open sky Bathing the morning in beauty from the heavens on high The building was high, its walls worn and old Its rooms held the elderly, the crippled, sick, and cold On one floor of this building, high above the street, In a ward full of beds and women, a lady lay asleep. Her body was exhausted, bleeding and torn, From the baby she"d given life to that very morn. The father sat with her, Thin, dark, and tall, Wondering about his wife and baby, staring at the wall. The lady stirred and awakened as the nurse came to her bed, Handing her the baby that now wanted to be fed. The lady held her baby close and nursed her for a while, The father watched ever so intently, on his face a smile. The mother handed him the baby, he took her with a giggle, "What do I do," he asked, "if she should start to wiggle?" The baby nestled in his arms, content to be held by her dad. He smiled at her and wondered about this daughter he had, With hair darker than his, skin so red and eyes so dark, He knew somehow, upon his life, she would leave her mark. He took her home to live and love, with her mother and him She was not his first, for she had a brother, Jim. She"s grown and beautiful now, tall and slim like her dad, He loves her yet, a lot you know, cause she"s the best a dad could have.
